The Taylor Group

We are an organic chemistry research group at the University of Toronto.

Our research interests include organic synthesis, catalysis and physical organic chemistry.

Announcements

Congratulations Benjamin, Katrina and Matthew!

The group's three newest PhD alumni are Benjamin Zheng, Katrina Ruzicka and Matthew Zambri. All three successfully defended their theses in August - it was a busy month! And many thanks to Profs. Masad Damha, Anat Milo and Rylan Lundgren for serving as their external examiners.

Welcome Teo and Hala

We are pleased to welcome two new graduate students to the group for the 2026-27 academic year: Teodora (University of Waterloo) and Hala (Smith College).

Modular, regioselective synthesis of N-alkylated azoles by nickel-catalyzed reductive couplings of hemiaminal oxalates

Matthew Zambri, a fifth year graduate student, along with Matthew Chow (fourth year undergradaute), worked together to develop a method for the synthesis of N-alkylated heterocycles from NH-azoles, aldehydes and haloarenes, published in ACS Catalysis. Congratulations!

Prospective graduate students

We are committed to creating an environment where students with a range of skills, experiences and perspectives can learn together and collaborate to reach their personal and professional goals. Graduate students interested in joining the group are encouraged to get in touch with Prof. Taylor by e-mail, and to visit the Department website for details about the program in chemistry at U of T. Diverse candidates are encouraged to apply.
